A long snake skin spooked people using a boat launch in Maine over the weekend.

The Westbrook Maine Police Department reported that around 3 p.m. on Saturday, someone found the shed skin along the Presumpscot River.

It was in the area of Riverbank Park.

Officers said they responded, photographed, collected and tagged the skin.

They hope to learn what type of snake it belonged to and the risks it could pose to public safety.

Until they learn that information, they urged people using the Presumpscot River to remain alert and maintain a safe distance from any wildlife.

They also urged people to report any sighting of the snake.
