Search crews found a 10-year-old boy in Granby after he'd been missing for an hour and a half, according to police.

After a massive search in the area of Wells Road Intermediate School, the boy was reunited with his family.

The school had been placed in a "shelter in place" mode, according to the superintendent's office, while the search was happening.

Police called the "shelter in place" a means to avoid the search dogs being distracted by children on the playground.

Superintendent Alan Addley confirmed that the boy is a 5th grade student at the school.

Around 12:20 p.m., Addley said the boy ran into the woods behind the school, which is located at 134 Wells Rd. The boy had climbed out of a bathroom window.

State police have confirmed that they helped with the search, as well as K9 units from the Bloomfield Police Department and crews from the Department of Correction.

The child was said to be unharmed when he was found in a tree in a wooded area around 1:40 p.m.

While some parents on social media complained about not receiving a phone call from the school, the superintendent maintains that alerts were set out to anyone who has a child at Wells Road.

In addition the town of Granby also sent out alerts to those who signed up for them.

The superintendent said the district will be evaluating their policies and procedures to make sure something like this doesn't happen again.
