Two Hartford officers were hurt apprehending a suspect in a home invasion, according to police.

After a pursuit on foot, police said they captured the suspect, Cory Lewis.

They called Lewis an armed and convicted felon. They also said he was an escapee.

The incident happened on Nov. 5 just before 8:30 a.m.

Police said they responded to a home on Edgewood Street for the report of a home invasion.

They said the victim who called 911 stated that a man forced his way in and was armed with a gun. He demanded money.

When officers arrived, Lewis was spotted trying to leave the scene.

He tried to run.

However, police said he was captured and handcuffed after a brief pursuit and struggle.

They said a pat-down revealed that Lewis had a Hi-point 9 mm loaded gun with four rounds, one of which was chambered.

Police said he tried to flee again while he was handcuffed and had to be captured again after another brief pursuit.

Further investigating revealed that Lewis also had Oxycontin pills on him.

Lewis has been convicted of multiple felonies and has 18 previous arrests in Hartford, according to police.

Police also learned that he was a wanted fugitive for an active escape from custody warrant.

The pills and firearm were seized.

Police said the two officers who were hurt went to the hospital for minor abrasions, bruises, an injured shoulder and a busted lip.

Lewis was charged with home invasion, having a pistol without a permit, criminal possession of a firearm, weapons in a motor vehicle, two counts of assault on police, have a large capacity magazine, escape from custody, interfering with police and possession of narcotics.
