Swimmers looking to take a dip in a Middlebury lake on Monday will have to do so somewhere else.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced that it has temporarily closed the Hop Brook Lake beach due to anticipated water quality problems.

It said that due to nearly 2.23 inches of rainfall and runoff that happened overnight, there may be a water quality issue based off of similar instances in the past.

The corps said it will retest the water and reopen the beach once the results come back ok.

It said the remainder of the park remains open for picnicking, hiking and other recreational activities.
