I-91 southbound in Meriden re-opened after crash

The southbound side of Interstate 91 in Meriden has reopened following a serious crash Friday afternoon.

The multiple-vehicle crash was reported on I-91 near exit 17 around 4:45 p.m.

I-91 closed between exits 18 and 17, according to the Department of Transportation.The highway was closed for nearly four hours, DOT said. Drivers were told to avoid the area.

There was no word on injuries.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
