Investigators say they feel blindsided by a new development related to a California mom that was missing for three weeks.

Sherri Papini's husband, Keith, described to Good Morning America her condition right after her release.

In his statement, he said Sherri's face was covered in bruises, her hair was chopped off, she weighted only 87-pounds and she was branded.

But, investigators said they didn't want that much information released yet.

“There was some unique information there that was put in press release today that we were hoping to keep a tight rein on, as far as what we were gonna release to the public,” Lt. Anthony Bertain, who is with the Shasta Co. Sheriff's Office, said. “It's not first hurdle in this investigation we've had, we have overcome many of them, not just in this case, but there are surprises in all investigations, so this just wasn't good timing."

Keith Papini also said he wanted to dispel what he called rumors and lies that started piling up after Sherri was found.

She disappeared while jogging near Redding on Nov. 2. Only to be found on the side of the highway 140-miles away on Thanksgiving Day.

Investigators only said they were looking for two women in a dark SUV, who are reportedly armed.
