The Channel 3 Liberty Bank Surprise Squad rounded out its back to school mission by satisfying some teachers this week.

Todd Zenczak, the dean of students at the Metropolitan Learning Center in Bloomfield, sent in the nomination.

"I was on the website and I saw it and I said, 'this would be a fantastic thing for our staff,'" Zenczak said.

The nomination focused on the staff.

"All year they work so hard for our kids and I just thought doing something nice for them to thank them and wish them luck for the beginning of the school year would be fantastic," Zenczak said.

School officially started on Wednesday.

With 80 to 85 teachers and staff members busy with meetings and preparing classrooms on Tuesday, the squad thought delivering lunch would be a nice treat.

"They're going to be happy because they love food, and free food," Zenczak said. "They love it so it'll be good. They're going to be excited. I can't wait to see it."

The Liberty Bank Surprise Squad led the teachers down a white carpet to the smell of their surprise.

There, lunch was served to help kick off the 2016-2017 school year.

"Just to have this kind of break of surprise in the middle of the day, it's you can see totally unexpected and they're so appreciative," said Sasha Douglas, principal at MLC.

"I was about to get food, and then they told us to come back here!" said Jaizz Nealy, an 8th grade teacher. "It was a good surprise! It was a great surprise, actually."

"We were very excited because we knew it was Surprise Squad," said Caroline Alexopoulos, an 11th and 12th grade teacher. "We heard you. We said, 'Oh I bet they're here because this is something special that you guys do for others' and it makes us feel special."

"It's a good start for the school year for us," said Ingrid Francis, a teacher at MLC. "Teachers get stressed out and I mean we're hardworking, so this is really something that is really worthwhile."

None of them said they saw the surprise coming.

"Similar to you, you love what you do and so do we," Alexopoulos said. "Thank you so much!"
