Man dies after boating accident in Haddam

Emergency crews were called to the CT River in Haddam for a possible drowning (WFSB)

Officials identified the man has died after a boating accident in the Connecticut River on Friday afternoon.

Officials from the Dept. of Energy and Environmental Protection said 64-year-old Higganum resident, Gunnar Grenman was in a 14-foot skiff when it capsized on the Connecticut River near the Haddam Meadows State Park.

Officials said it took place at about 2:45 p.m. on Friday.

Officials said the man was determined to be unconscious, and was brought to the state launch where CPR was begun and eventually continued by arriving EMS and Haddam Fire Department personnel.

Grenman was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after 4 p.m, officials said.

The accident remains under investigation.
