A man accused of threatening a cashier and stealing money from a tip jar was arrested by police in Westport.

Police said 55-year-old David Phillips threatened to "kill" the clerk at the SoNo Baking Company on Church Lane Sunday morning.

After taking the money, he fled the scene on a bicycle.

Police said they found a man matching Phillips' description at the Gillespie Center on Jeseup Road.

After being identified as Phillips, police said the suspect admitted to using the money he stole to buy cigarettes.

The cashier was also able to positively identify the suspect as Phillips.

He was charged with threatening, disorderly conduct and sixth-degree larceny.

Police said he was given a bond of $2,500 and a court date of Aug. 12.
