Murdered Meriden man's car sought by police

A man's body was found inside an apartment in Meriden (WFSB)

Police are hoping the public can help find a vehicle in connection with a grisly discovery.

They said they are investigating after a man's body was found at the Tower Properties Apartments on East Main Street.

They asked for the public's help to find what they called a "vehicle of interest."

They said the vehicle belongs to the victim and is missing. It's a blue-colored 2014 4-door Nissan Sentra. It has a Connecticut plate registration of 642-YVE,

As of just after 10:15 a.m. on Thursday, police said they believe they know the identity of the victim. However, they will not be releasing it until it's confirmed.

They're working to confirm it with help from the state medical examiner's office. They said they'll release the name once next of kin is notified.

Neighbors told officers they grew concerned after they had not seen the man in his third floor unit for a few weeks.

They said they called police Wednesday night after a neighbor and maintenance worker went up to check on the victim.

When they arrived at the door, the two people told police they could smell something bad inside. Investigators were called to the scene minutes later and they discovered the body inside.

"His car has been missing for a long time, and nobody had seen or heard from him in awhile. I guess they investigated it," said neighbor Donna Douglas.

Police also said it appeared the man had been inside for some time.

Neighbors believe his live-in girlfriend had passed away not too long ago, and he had been seeing someone new.

Investigators obtained a warrant to go inside and investigate the apartment early Thursday morning.

An autopsy is being done to determine the cause of death.

Anyone with information about the missing vehicle is asked to contact the Meriden Police Department at 203-630-6201.
