Naugatuck police searching for missing 8-year-old

Mariah Snyder (CT State Police)

Police in Naugatuck are searching for an 8-year-old girl who has been reported missing.

Mariah Snyder has been missing since Saturday, police said, at around 1 p.m. She left her home with a family member, Megan Mizell, to visit another family member, Erica Mizell. Neither relative can be contacted.

Detectives on the case said they do not believe the child is in any immediate danger, yet police remain concerned for her safety, said Lieutenant Bryan Cammarata in a release.

Police said Mariah was never brought back home, and is believed to be with the two family members, in a 2016 red Mazda 5 with Arizona tag BCC-3098. Police suspect the family may be en route to Arizona where, police say, Mariah's birth mother lives.

She has black hair, brown eyes and is about 4 feet tall. It is unclear what she is wearing.

Police said they could be in the Waterbury area, or possibly headed to Mesa, AZ.

Anyone with information should contact Naugatuck police at (203) 729-5221.
