Victim of New Britain real estate scam speaks out

Nancy Garofalo (New Britain police)

A New Britain landlord accused of scamming would-be renters is due in court Thursday morning.

According to police, Nancy Garofalo, 45, took thousands of dollars on deposits for apartments that were never made available.

In the past year, police said she identified herself as a leasing agent for property at 260 Washington St.

Investigators said some of the victims came to the apartments thinking they could move in. Some came with children and one person had a gun, but they were turned away by the actual tenant.

Detectives said that when victims asked for their deposits back, she refused to reimburse them.

Garofalo faces several larceny charges.
