Wednesday was a scary night for people who live in an apartment complex in New Britain, after they said they heard gunfire coming from inside their building.

New Britain police have not yet released any information about the apparent shooting on Farmington Avenue, but investigators remained at the scene on Wednesday night, near Ward Avenue.

Police were called to the area at around 8 p.m., when neighbors said they heard gunshots coming from a third floor apartment.

They then saw one of their neighbors run out of the building and collapse.

Neighbors said investigators and EMTs arrived in full force a few minutes later.

Witnesses said one person appeared to be taken into custody, but officers told a few people who live in the area that at least one other suspect was still on the loose.

EMTs appeared to leave the scene with the victim after about a half an hour after the apparent shooting.

A business owner who owns a barbershop across the street from the complex said officers asked him if his surveillance cameras were working, because they were still looking for at least one suspect, but unfortunately the cameras were not on.

Witnesses said the entire situation is unsettling.

“We saw a lot of cops coming through, like just speeding detectives, dogs, ambulance and everything,” said Joanna Cruz, who lives in the area.

“I hope the police did their best and figure out what happened and catch whoever did it,” said neighbor Ahmed Sufayan.

Initially Farmington Avenue was closed on Wednesday evening, however it was later reopened.
