Some of the best runners in New England will be pounding the pavement during next weekend's Eversource Hartford Marathon.

One group in particular is aptly named "New England's Finest."

It's a program in its 9th year, according to the Hartford Marathon Foundation.

This year, NEF is bringing 10 2016 Olympic trialists to the event. Five will compete in the marathon. The other five will run the half marathon.

Matt Pellitier, 37, of the Oneco section of Sterling, is longtime runner. He said he's representing NEF.

He's an Olympic trialist aiming for a another victory after winning the marathon event in 2014. He was 2nd last year.

"I have been running for 23 years," he said. "I have always been competitive and try to get the best out of myself."

On the women's side, Marry-Lynn Currier is another former Hartford Marathon winner. She has a string of New England race wins in her 40s. Now in her 50s, she set records in a number of places, including Hartford.

This year's race will mark her 19th straight appearance in Hartford.

The group isn't just made of Olympic hopefuls.

Many of the other members of the group, including Sara Belles of Brookfield, boast decades of experience.

"I have been running for 20 years now," she said. "This is my first time running Hartford and I am excited for the entire experience."
