The Elm City welcomed its holiday tree on Halloween.

Mayor Toni Harp said she'll be joined by sponsors, representatives of community groups and other city officials Monday afternoon to usher in the just-harvested tree to the New Haven Green.

Harp called it the city's "Christmas on Halloween" celebration. It was held at the lower green across Church Street from City Hall at 12:30 p.m.

Harp said the soon-to-be decorated tree serves as the focal point for several programs built into her "kindness initiative." Representatives from the Connecticut Food Bank and Toys for Tots were on hand for Monday's event.

Harp did not say when the tree would officially be decorated.
