State police have reported one person has died in a motor vehicle crash on Interstate 91 in Meriden on Friday afternoon.

The two-car crash was reported on the southbound side of I-91 near exit 16 around 4 p.m. The crash has closed the northbound side of I-91 in that area as well as the left lane southbound. The crash closed the northbound side of the highway for hours.

State police said the northbound side could be closed for about three hours while the southbound lane could be closed for an hour.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.

The highway reopened around 8:30 p.m. on Friday evening.

Police have not released any other details at this point.
