One person had to be pulled from a fire in the Broad Brook section of East Windsor.

Tolland County dispatchers said the fire was reported on the second floor of a barn that has been renovated into a residence at 127 Broad Brook Rd.

The caller originally called the routine dispatch line, but was ordered to hang up and immediately dial 911.

When crews arrived, they found heavy fire showing from the back of the barn.

They met with two people from the main house on the property. The people informed firefighters that one person was unaccounted for and may still be inside.

One person was pulled out of the structure and was taken to St. Francis Hospital, dispatchers said. The person's condition remains unknown.

Crews from Warehouse Point, South Windsor and Enfield helped because of a lack of hydrants in the area. Cold weather also proved to be a challenge.

Once the fire was out, the East Windsor fire marshal along with the state Fire Marshal's Office was on the scene throughout the night.

The cause remains under investigation.
