PD: CT bus driver inappropriately touched 11-year-old girl

A Connecticut bus driver was charged with sexual assault of 11-year-old girl earlier this year.

Police received a complaint that a driver, who was later identified as Bridgeport resident Luis E. Cruz, inappropriately touched an unidentified girl on the bus on Feb. 28.

Cruz, who is a driver for Connecticut Transportation Services, LLC., turned himself in Connecticut State Police on Wednesday. He was charged with fourth-degree sexual assault, risk of injury to a minor, and illegal sexual contact of a victim less than age 16.

Cruz, who is being held on $20,000 bond, was scheduled to be arraigned in Danbury Superior Court on Thursday.

A statement was released by Chet Doheny, president and CEO of Connecticut Transportation Solutions, LLC, on Thursday that said "Connecticut Transportation Solutions takes the safety of the students and passengers utilizing our transport services very seriously. We ensure all of our drivers go through an extensive background check satisfying all the credentialing requirements of the Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles, Department of Transportation, and the Department of Children and Families. The driver in this case met all mandated requirements and when concerns were brought to our attention we took immediate action, including contacting police and other appropriate state agencies as well as terminating employment. We have and will continue to support the Connecticut State Police in this investigation. We know the level of trust and confidence parents and guardians place in us. This is not something we take lightly. This company will continue to put student and passenger safety first."
