A 23-year-old man was charged with impersonating an officer in Hamden in October.

Hamden resident Nicholas Ferrucci was arrested on Friday in connection with an incident that took place on Oct. 20.

The arrest of Ferrucci comes after officers were called to a "suspicious activity complaint" around 1 a.m. Upon arrival, officers learned that the complainant was followed by a vehicle “tailgating and flashing high beams” at him.

The complainant told police that the driver of the vehicle, who was later identified as Ferrucci, followed him to his home on Cannon Street. Police said that's when Ferrucci exited the vehicle and "identified himself as an off-duty police officer."

Ferrucci left the area and said he would return after a brief conversation. A short time later, police said Ferrucci "continued to 'bang' on the door of the home of the complainant.

Police said Ferrucci was dressed in a police uniform that "consisted of a police shirt, a patch with the name of a police agency affixed to the shirt, a badge, police radio and what appeared to be a firearm."

Ferrucci told the complainant that he "had spoken to his supervisor who instructed him to make an arrest." After "another verbal altercation," police said Ferrucci fled the area.

Police identified Ferrucci as the suspect in the case and he was arrested at his home on Russo Drive by members of the United States Marshal Service Fugitive Task Force along with Hamden Police Department detectives.

Besides impersonation an officer, Ferrucci was charged with carrying a dangerous weapon and second-degree breach of peace. He is being held on a $20,000 bond.

Ferrucci was expected to be arraigned at Meriden Superior Court on Dec.2.
