Police arrested a suspect who they said was shoplifting at a CVS on Saturday.

When a CVS employee, at the Bank Street location, confronted the suspect, the employee said the suspect struck the employee in the face, then took off running up Jefferson Ave, police said.

After a search of the surrounding area, police arrested 26-year-old, New London resident, Dereck Bonaparte. Police said they located Bonaparte in the area of Prest St. and Connecticut Ave., but Bonaparte fled again and attempted to hide under the rear deck of a nearby house.

Bonaparte was charged for robbery, interfering with police, assault, trespassing, larceny, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Bonaparte is being held on a $15,000 cash surety bond.
