A pair of suspected package thieves were arrested by police in West Hartford.

Police said Justice Eugene Johnson, 24, of Waterbury, and 20-year-old Deanna Naomi Gordon, also of Waterbury, posed as cable company employees to commit the crimes.

They were caught on Monday.

Officers were alerted by a resident in the 1300 block of Boulevard who witnessed what he believed to be package thefts.

The caller said that the suspects came to his house soliciting for a cable company. They did not have town-issued solicitors badges.

West Hartford requires all door-to-door solicitors to have permits.

The caller told police that he saw them without packages and then again with packages.

He called West Hartford police who found Johnson and Gordon in possession of what they found to be stolen packages.

The packages were taken from two addresses on Boulevard.

Martina Caravedi said she is wondering what happened to a package that failed to show up at her home last month, after hearing about the package thieves.

"My son did order something that said it was delivered and it didn't show up, so unfortunately he kind of missed out," she said.

The two suspects were charged with sixth-degree larceny, interfering with an officer and simple trespass.

They were released on $2,500 non-surety bonds and given a community court date of Dec. 21.
