Southington Police spent hours in what neighbors call an 'otherwise quiet street' investigating the suspicious death of a woman in her 30s.

Police said the investigation began at 6 a.m. on Sunday morning.

The investigation, police said, is linked to a crime scene that took place at 5:30 a.m. in the parking lot of the Naugatuck Police Department, but police would not clarify how the investigations are linked.

Police said they responded to 58 Manor Road around 6 a.m. for a welfare check when they found the woman's body.

The identity of the woman is being withheld pending notification of the family, according to police.

Neighbors in the area told Channel 3 they were rattled by the appearance of police.

"It’s a shame that it happens in a neighborhood like this," said Fred Frost. "One of the neighbors down there said that he heard a gunshot at 1 o’clock in the morning and somebody scream."

Police said there is no risk to the public at this time.

If anyone has any information they are asked to contact the Southington Police Department Detective Division.
