People flock to Ocean Beach Park for Cruise Night

The final Cruise Night of the season took place in New London (WFSB)

The beautiful weather has created an interesting combination in New London on Monday night.

Thousands of beach bums and car nuts flocked to Ocean Beach Park to say an unofficial goodbye to summer.

The final “Cruise Night” was happening in New London where dozens of antique and other interesting automobiles assemble for a completely free and completely awesome car show.

Perhaps the coolest part of this show is it’s just a few steps from the beach, which is absolutely packed for Labor Day.

That has also helped attendance of course for this evening’s Cruise Night which is the final one of the summer.

Ocean Beach Park’s manager Dave Sugrue said attendance had been down this summer due mostly to lousy weather.

Some days were rainy others were extremely hot, but Monday is spectacular and they may set a Labor Day record here because plenty of car nuts tell us this is the perfect way to spend a holiday.

“It’s the weather. I’m sure the last couple of weeks it’s been less people. Today the weather it’s toward the end of the season, people want to get the cars out,” said Paul Girard of Bozrah.

“A lot of people have the same love it brings the community together everyone wants to check out cars everybody good way to spend the holiday. Absolutely,” said Jeff Daniels of Waterford.

The Cruise Night is happening until 7 p.m. on Monday.

There is something for everybody.
