New information has surfaced following the arrest of a highly respected Wethersfield elementary school principal.
John Bean, principal of Highcrest Elementary School, was arrested over the weekend at the Walmart plaza on Flatbush Avenue in Hartford.
Police said Bean resisted arrest, and was charged with breach of peace.
The arrest came as a shock to many, like the Tolland superintendent of schools, who said Bean always went above and beyond and spent hours of his own time working for the better of the children.
Bean was an assistant principal of Tolland Intermediate School. He was named principal in Wethersfield two-and-a-half years ago.
"I have nothing but positive things to say about Mr. Bean. The information regarding his arrest does not make sense to me,” said Tolland Superintendent Walt Willett.
Before Tolland, Bean was a teacher in South Windsor, winning teacher of the year in 2014.
Many people took to social media not believing the arrest.
“I personally know this man, he taught my children - I can honestly say - John is probably one of the most honest, humble and stand up guys I've ever had the pleasure in knowing,” said John Pereira.
“He's a really nice guy who does a good job. I hope he doesn't lose his job over this,” Jon Michael Reynolds said.
Bean was placed on leave from the elementary school. He is expected to appear in court on Wednesday.
