It's not just back to the books for students during the first week of school.
It's also back to the playing field.
Officials and student athletes at Southington High School said they're ready for the first round of Friday Night Football on Channel 3.
Principal Brian Stranieri even sported a special tie to commemorate the day.
"It was a gift from our lead custodian," he said. "He gave to me for opening day. I'm a very superstitious guy. When they win, I'll be wearing this every Friday."
Southington faces Glastonbury High School on Friday night.
And it's not just football on the schedule.
"We have a lot going on here," Stranieri said. "There's field hockey this afternoon, we have boys and girls soccer and tonight obviously we have the football game."
Stranieri they have a tradition after each football game where they watch Friday Night Football on Channel 3.
"We go to one of the guys houses and wait for the show to come on," he said. "We check all the scores from the week and the night to see what happened and we enjoy it."
