State police are investigating an officer-involved shooting in Stratford.

Troopers said it happened early Wednesday morning in the Lordship section of the town by Russian Beach.

Around 4:45 a.m., Stratford police responded to a call about a man with a gun.

When they found the man, they confirmed that he indeed had a handgun.

Troopers said Stratford officers ordered the man to drop the weapon. However, the man advanced towards officers and fired at least one round in their direction.

At least one Stratford officer fired a round. It struck the armed man.

First aid was administered and the man was transported to Bridgeport Hospital for evaluation.

State police said they took over the investigation around 6:30 a.m.

No officers were injured, and the suspect is listed as being in stable condition.

Police said the two Stratford officers have been placed on paid administrative duty, per Stratford Police Department policy.

An investigation is being conducted by the Fairfield Judicial District State's Attorneys Office and the Connecticut State Police Major Crime Unit.
