Stop sign violation leads to cocaine arrest in Plainfield

A stop sign violation in Plainfield led police to arrest a man on several drug charges.

Police said Dustin Stewart, 38, was driving a gray Cadillac STS in the area of Main Street and Milner Avenue in the Moosup section of town just before midnight on Wednesday.

Stewart was found to be in possession of 11 individually wrapped pre-packaged bags of cocaine and marijuana cigarettes, according to police.

He was arrested for having 13.9 grams of cocaine.

Police then said they searched his home and found 109.7 grams of cocaine and about 14.8 grams of marijuana.

He was charged with possession of narcotics, possession with intent to sell, possession within 1,500 feet of a school, possession with intent to sell near a school, possession of less then a half an ounce of marijuana, failure to obey a stop sign and failure to display a front marker plate.

Stewart was held on a $50,000 bond and scheduled to face a judge on Thursday in Danielson.
