Third human case of West Nile Virus reported in Southington


A third human case of West Nile Virus has been reported in the state. A resident of Southington has tested positive for WNV.

The first two cases were residents of Fairfield and Newington.

The patient is between the ages of 70 to 79 years old.

They became ill during the first week of August with encephalitis and they were hospitalized.

The person did not travel out of the areal before becoming ill.

WNV has been detected in the state every year since 1999.

Before 2018, 134 human cases of WNV were diagnosed in the state, including 3 fatalities.

In 2017, three CT residents were diagnosed with WNV.
