Nearly 2,000 people unrolled their yoga mats on LaSalle St in West Hartford for a morning practice on Saturday.
The 6th annual “Om Street” event began peacefully with meditative “om” chanting – ideal in a yoga practice to bring the mind and body in sync before and after a cleansing yoga session.
"It feels good to be here, said Barbara Ruzansky, owner of West Hartford Yoga, located on Brook St. “It's a moment of just feeling peaceful and happy together and joy because it is a tough time."
Ruzansky led the mega-class, taking beginners and more seasoned yogis through with fundamental moves and teachings.
Participants boast about the practices benefits both spiritually and physically.
"This is like my body therapy,” said dedicated yogi, Lanelle Gallo. “Our issues become our tissues, and this has been my returning practice when I notice I'm in my head too much."
The atmosphere of yogis practicing simultaneously had positives effects on those in the group.
"Yoga, you can take anywhere,” said Claudia Hallas. “If I have a tough day at work, I'll just sit and breathe a little bit and get re-centered or sometimes my yoga is going out for a hike in the woods."
