Groton police said they conducted a major drug bust on Tuesday evening, where three people were taken into custody.

Police said they seized well over 10 ounces of heroin, which is over 300 grams worth $30,000. Police also seized over an ounce of powder cocaine, crack cocaine and marijuana.

The heroin, police said, was mixed with Fentanyl, which has been linked to a rash of heroin overdoses in the area. Police said every bag of heroin was laced with Fentanyl.

Police arrested 27-year-old Lorenzo A. Malcolm, of New London, 29-year-old Gilberto X. Alvarez, and 40-year-old Rachael A. Mead.

The bust comes after a week-long investigation. Officials said it is a step in the right direction to help with the recent issues of heroin overdoses, but it won't totally stop the problems.

No further details were immediately available.
