Police in Willimantic stopped a Griswold man for a traffic violation, but they said it turned into a drug bust.

Thomas Gwiazdowski, 24, had a little more than a half a pound of marijuana and a 9mm Ruger pistol, according to police.

Police said he did have a valid pistol permit for the firearm.

However, he'll have to go before a hearing at the state DPS Special Licensing and Firearms Unit.

Police seized the gun and the pot.

Gwiazdowski was charged with possession of greater than 4 ounces of marijuana and possession of marijuana with intent to sell.

He was released on a $50,000 non-surety bond and given a court date of Nov. 18 in Danielson.
