Ferry service to Block Island canceled due to Hermine

Travelers will not be able to head to Block Island this holiday weekend due to Hermine.

Block Island Ferry Service was canceled for the rest of the holiday weekend. All ferries were canceled for Monday.

Cross Sound Ferry Service service was operating on its regular schedule on Monday. On Friday, more than 2,000 vehicles and 6,000 passengers traveled between New London and Orient Point, Long island.

The Steamship Authority's website states the service "expects to continue operations for the rest of today's scheduled trips for both the Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket routes." The Steamship Authority also said " it may have to suspend ferry service on Monday for both the Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket routes due to the impacts from Tropical Storm Hermine."

The Rhode Island Department of Transportation canceled on Sunday the 5 p.m. ferry trip from Providence and 6:15 p.m. from Newport due to high winds.
