Man dead following police standoff in Ledyard
LEDYARD, CT (WFSB) - Earlier this morning, Ledyard police attempted to serve an outstanding arrest warrant and a search warrant at 70 Whalehead Road in Gales Ferry as part of an active investigation.
Daniel DiCicco, 47, was wanted on three outstanding warrants, including a felony warrant for Failure to Appear on weapons-related charges.
“This incident was isolated to the area of the home at 70 Whalehead Road. Several neighbors in the immediate area were temporarily evacuated and the roadways closed as a precaution for public safety,” Ledyard police said.
Thursday morning at 9:25 AM, agents and officers began the process of executing the search warrant on the property.
Surveillance of the property showed DiCicco on the ground toward rear of the property. Agents and Crisis Negotiators attempted contact with DiCicco and received no response.
When agents could safely enter the property, DiCicco was unconscious and declared dead.
“The Connecticut State Police Eastern District Major Crime Unit is handling the investigation into Mr. DiCicco’s death,” said Ledyard police.
Police said the area reopened to traffic Thursday evening.
