UConn men’s hockey coach talks about first game at the XL Center

(WFSB) - The UConn men’s hockey team plays its first game at the XL Center Saturday afternoon.

In the past, UConn has gone down to the XL Center to get a practice in, but not this year. Head coach Mike Cavanaugh explained why:

“Yeah, it’s interesting, in the past we would go down there for a skate just to get the feel of the ice just to get away from the Freitas once in a while, but our players like Toscano so much, they don’t want to leave. We don’t have that many new players so its not such a big deal to get them used to the ice. We’re looking forward to playing there, usually, a big crowd, our fans can’t get tickets for games here and it’s a chance for our fans from Avon and Farmington and Simsbury who have a tough time making the drive to Storrs so hopefully, they’ll get a chance to see us Saturday.”

The game Saturday is at 4:00 against Hockey East foe UMass Lowell.
