UConn men’s hockey nears halfway point of the season

STORRS, CT (WFSB) - The UConn men’s hockey team is coming up on the halfway point of the season.

Through 15 games they are 6-8-1, with a game Friday night against UMass Lowell, and then Sunday at Maine.

Head coach Mike Cavanaugh was asked about the magic of 13. The 13 inches off the ice where his players are trying to put their shots on goal.

“Oh, I think that you watch a lot of hockey. Watch the NHL highlights. A lot of goals are scored at that level. There is a tough spot under the gloves, under the blocker, above the pads. It’s not a secret or a revolutionary concept. It’s a place where goal scorers score goals and you know we’ve been preaching it, I mean the ones off and it just seems like more goals scored a shot off the ice I said,” Cavanaugh said.

The UConn men’s team is home Friday night with a 7:00 drop. The women’s team, with a 10-4-1 record, will be home Friday at 2:00 against Merrimack.
