UConn rolls to 91-52 win over Stetson

BROOKLYN, NY (WFSB) - The University of Connecticut men’s basketball team’s trek toward back-to-back NCAA Tournament titles began Friday.

UConn defeated 16 seed Stetson University at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY with a final score of 91-52.

Center Donovan Clingan led the way for the Huskies with 19 points and 8 rebounds. He shot 9-11 from the field.

Guard Cam Spencer scored 15 points for UConn. He shot 3-7 from three.

All of UConn’s five starters scored in the double digits.

The Huskies will face 9 seed Northwestern in the second round of the tournament on Sunday. Tip time has not been released yet.

UConn spent Thursday preparing for the first round matchup.

For the Stetson Hatters, it’s their first March Madness appearance. As a 16 seed, they sought help from previous high seeds that have had success against top seeds.

The Huskies were a 26.5-point favorite to win, and that’s enough for three presidents past and present: Joe Biden, Barack Obama and Barstool Sports’ David Portnoy to publicly announce their support and belief that UConn will win the whole tournament.

Students on UConn’s Storrs campus said they were also getting geared up to cheer on the women’s team, which play there Saturday against Jackson State. That game is at 1 p.m. Information on viewing that game can be found here.
