Travelers Championship Second Round Recap

CROMWELL, CT(WFSB) - The second round of the Travelers Championship on Friday saw interruptions due to weather conditions, including heat and storms.

The weather was an issue during the play with the heat and storm.

Tom Kim maintained his position at the top of the leaderboard for the second consecutive day after an early tee time at 8:15 a.m., where he capitalized with three consecutive birdies.

Kim currently holds a score of -13 under par.

“Definitely going into today, just not thinking about the score, I’m playing well, I know what I’m doing on the golf course so just really executing my game plan and the score is the score,” said Kim.

Following closely behind Kim is Akshay Bhatia from LA, who shot an impressive 5-under 65 for the second consecutive day at TPC River Highlands.

Colin Morikawa also surged up the leaderboard with a 7-under 63 round.

“It’s been really steady. I haven’t made too many mistakes and if I miss a green, I’ve had stress free pars at least. Shots are going where I want them and going into the fairway,” said Morikawa.

Former champion Xander Schauffele positioned himself well with back-to-back 5-under 65 rounds, sitting at 10-under overall.

The former San Diego State Aztec fired a second straight 5 under 65 to sit 10 under overall.

“I’m playing with what I’ve got. I know this property pretty well. It can be rewarding for good golf shots. I’m just playing to the best of my ability and that’s what I’ve done the last two days,” said Schauffle.

Scottie Scheffler, amidst a back-nine birdie surge with three birdies in four holes, faced interruptions due to the weather delay but remains competitive at 10-under with two holes left to play.
