UConn football completes historic season with victory in Wasabi Fenway Bowl

STORRS, CT (WFSB) – In a season filled with exhilarating wins and heartbreaking losses, the 2024 UConn football team closed out the year with a record breaking ending.

After finishing the regular season with an 8-4 record, the Huskies earned a spot in the Wasabi Fenway Bowl, where they faced off against the North Carolina Tar Heels.

UConn wasted no time making its presence felt, jumping out to an early 10-0 lead in the first quarter and controlling the pace of the game throughout.

The Huskies maintained a solid lead, up by three at the end of the first quarter, 17 at halftime, and 20 heading into the final frame.

The Huskies ultimately triumphed over UNC, securing a 27-14 victory to notch their 9th win of the season, the most since 2007.

This marks UConn’s first bowl win since 2009, capping off a remarkable season.

Quarterback Joe Fagnano led the charge with two touchdown passes, one of which found wide receiver Skyler Bell, who led the team in receiving with three catches for 77 yards and a touchdown.

Running backs Mel Brown and Cam Edwards were instrumental on the ground, combining for 170 rushing yards.

In a thrilling development just before kickoff, it was announced that UConn head coach Jim Mora had signed a two-year contract extension, keeping him under contract through the 2028 season.

Mora, who has led the Huskies to two bowl games and one bowl win in his first three years, has now guided UConn to its first winning season since 2010.
