Boston man arrested after driving 130 MPH on I-84

WILLINGTON, Conn. (WFSB) - A 20-year-old Boston man has been arrested after driving 130mph on I-84.

State police say they had troopers on I-84 west in Union conducting speed enforcement on Saturday morning.

A trooper near Exit 74 saw a grey Tesla traveling at an extremely high rate of speed.

The trooper attempted to catch up to the Tesla, which police say took several minutes due to how fast it was driving.

State police say the Tesla was also using all three lanes at a high rate of speed to pass traffic.

“Once behind the vehicle, the Trooper clocked its speed at 130mph,” state police said in a press release. “The Trooper conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle which pulled to the right shoulder at Exit 70 in the Town of Willington.”

The driver was identified as 21-year-old Zhenyang Xu, of Boston.

Xu told police he was speeding because he was in a rush to visit a sick friend in New York.

Xu was arrested and charged with reckless driving, failure to maintain lane, and 6 counts of improper passing.

He was released on a $1,000 bond and will appear in court on the 24th.
