Travelers Championship week begins at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell

CROMWELL, CT. (WFSB) - Travelers Championship week began Tuesday at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell.

The top 75 golfers on the PGA Tour will tee off Thursday, battling for part of the $8 million purse.

The weather was unpleasant, but that didn’t deter the competitors from going to the driving range to fine tune their game.

Tuesdays before a tournament usually serve as the last full day for players to work on their game and have equipment repaired or replaced.

“Going off of last week what I need to focus on and work on and then taking it to this course. I know what shots this course yields so you’re working on shots you’re going to need here,” said Jordan Speith, who won the 2017 tournament.

The players all had plans of many varieties, but the consensus was to resolve any kinks before the action begins.

It was a busy working day, but it’s something that they don’t take for granted.

“It’s great to be back at the Travelers a signature event on tour. We are treated like kings, the range is a whole different scene at the travelers I practice more this week because it’s a good hang,” said Adam Scott, who’s best finish in the tournament was 19th back in 2023.

“Travelers does a great job here travelers has always looked at ways to make the tournament better not just for players and caddies, but fans and clients, they’ve done a great job,” said Rickie Fowler, a three-time 13th place finisher.

The players also had access to some of the best food there was to offer, making temptations hard to resist.

“I will say the golfers love a mash potato with carmelized onions,” said Sophia Page of Big Green Pizza Truck.

“I’m a huge golf fan so this event has a big red circle on my calendar every year to work it,” said Michael Page, Big Green Pizza Truck.

Tiger Woods, one of the greatest golfers of all time, also showed up in town.

He is part of the committee that hired Briana Rolapp to be the new CEO of the PGA Tour.

Woods and the committee met yesterday and made the announcement this morning.
