Killingly twins breathing life into team’s dreams of winning state championship again

KILLINGLY, CT. (WFSB) - The Allard twins are helping the Killingly Trailblazers chase another state championship.

Hayden and Hunter Allard, twin brothers who have been playing football together since fourth grade, are leading the 5-0 Trailblazers as they sit atop the WFSB Channel 3 Top 10 poll.

The team has 19 returning starters from last year’s undefeated state championship team.

“We lean on each other for like everything, and it’s like awesome because we’re so close,” said Hayden Allard.

The twins’ bond extends beyond the field, creating a competitive dynamic that pushes both players to their limits.

“Me and Hayden always talk about it at home, and it makes us closer and it’s like playing with your best friend,” said Hunter Allard.

Coach Chad Neal said the twins’ competitiveness shows both in practice and games.

“They go at it. You know, they go at it and there’s always one last shove with the two of them,” he said.

Hayden said that the competition motivates both him and his brother.

“If he’s like scoring more, I want to score, and if he’s like, I’ll shove him around in practice a lot, like going on one on one with him, so it’s pretty cool,” he added.

Through five games this season, the twins have combined for 25 touchdowns. Several of those scores have come on defense, as they rarely leave the field.

“It’s tough to get them off the field. Even they want to jump on scout team, and I’m like, you guys can not go on scout teams, you cannot get injured,” said Neal. “They just love playing football and it’s contagious. When your best players are your hardest workers, that’s what it’s all about, that’s good stuff.”

Killingly is averaging 47 points per game this season, extending their winning streak to 18 games. The team hasn’t lost since November 28th, 2023.

If the Trailblazers continue their dominance on both sides of the ball, they will have a chance to defend their crown and win the Class SS state championship for the second consecutive year.

“I think the winning streak is important, especially for the community, because I feel like the community is always helping us out and supporting us, and I want to do it for them,” said Hunter.
