Victim of Meriden shooting identified by police
MERIDEN, CT (WFSB) - A 22-year-old man was shot and killed Monday afternoon in a residential neighborhood less than a mile from downtown Meriden, police said.
Police identified the victim as Deron Johnson.
The shooting happened at around noon in the area of Cook Avenue and Summer Street.
When officers arrived, they said they found Johnson suffering from at least one gunshot wound.
Officers initiated life-saving measures on scene before the man was transported to the hospital. After he arrived, he was pronounced dead.
Police said they brought out K9 units twice during the afternoon to help search for evidence, including potential bullets or a weapon.
Two blocks of Cook Avenue were shut down as detectives searched.
The Meriden Police Department Detective Division was said to be investigating the incident.
It said it does not believe that there is any threat to the public.
