Windham Tech basketball player breaks 40-year scoring record

WILLIMANTIC, Conn. (WFSB) - For the first time since 1984, Windham Tech has a new all-time leading scorer in boys basketball.

Brady Marsh, a senior who is averaging 27 points per game this season, eclipsed 1,431 career points to carve his name into the record books.

“As a middle schooler, an all-time record, you don’t really know what that is. Once you get into high school and you really see how hard it is to accomplish those goals, it definitely means a lot to me,” Marsh said.

Marsh credits his ability to break the scoring record to support from his coaches, teammates and family members who have been with him since day one.

“My mom has always been by my side no matter what, and my dad is one of my biggest supporters. Having them along with my journey is the best thing I could ever wish for,” Marsh said.

Marsh’s personal success on the court has led to team success for Windham Tech. The core group of seniors on this year’s team, including Marsh, helped the Mighty Tigers win their first boys basketball conference championship last year.

“I’m proud of all my guys. We’re a really small school. Windham Tech, you hear technical school, and everybody thinks we’re not the best. There’s a lot of great tech schools in our conference,” Marsh said.

Head coach Luke Gildea said Marsh’s competitiveness sets him apart.

“He’s overly competitive, that’s number one. Every night out he’s super competitive within the games and practices, as well getting after it every day. Things might get a little chippy here and there, but the competitiveness is definitely what takes him over the top,” Gildea said.

With Marsh leading the way, Windham Tech is 16-3 on the year and riding a nine-game winning streak heading into their final game of the regular season.

“I think we should really go far in both tournaments. I’ve got a lot of trust in my guys, and they’ve got trust in me. So, hopefully we can make something special happen this year,” Marsh said.

If the Mighty Tigers go on a deep run in the state tournament this year, Marsh will have a chance to break Windham Tech’s all-time scoring record of 1,869 points, which was set by Marissa Shirshac in 2018.
