UConn men’s basketball team leaves for Final Four this afternoon
Campus sendoff set
STORRS, CT (WFSB) - The UConn men’s basketball team is off to the Final Four in Indianapolis.
A team sendoff event took place outside the Werth basketball building on the Storrs campus.
The Huskies advanced to the Final Four on Sunday with a dramatic comeback win over Duke. UConn was down 19 points, rallied, and won on freshman Braylon Mullins’ three-pointer with 0.3 seconds left on the clock.
“Seeing Mullins take that shot, it was definitely insane. The experience was a once in a lifetime,” said Ray Mulla, a UConn junior.
“This atmosphere is great and I feel like that buzzer beater really sent us over the moon,” said Connor Fegely, a freshman. “We’re all a very eager group and we’re ready to send our huskies to the national championship.”
UConn will play Illinois on Saturday at 6:09 p.m. in Indianapolis.
The women’s team, which beat Notre Dame on Sunday, will play South Carolina on Friday in Phoenix.
Every year since 2008, either the UConn men or women, or both, have been in the Final Four.
A sweep this year would mark the third time in college basketball history that one school won both the men’s and women’s titles in the same year.
UConn did it both previous times, in 2004 and 2014.
