Babysitter charged after 3-month-old boy bitten, injured in her care, mother says

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG/Gray News) - An Ohio woman is behind bars after she was accused of biting and injuring a 3-month-old boy while she was babysitting him.

Kamariea Marshall is facing three counts of child endangerment after she was accused of hurting a 3-month-old boy she was babysitting in March. The boy’s mother said she needed someone to watch her son while she packed up her apartment after receiving notice to vacate for renovations.

“I only had three days to pack my whole house up, so she had him for the three days that I was packing my house,” the mother said.

Days later, the mother said Marshall sent her a text asking why the baby had bruises and scratches on his body. The babysitter took the boy to a hospital, and his mother rushed to meet them there.

“When I walked in that room, they said that he wasn’t breathing. He had bruising on his chest. His ribs were fractured. He had a bite mark on his leg. He had scratches underneath both of his cheeks,” the mother said.

Doctors found the baby had bruising and fractured ribs and, suspecting abuse, contacted authorities.

Marshall told hospital staff she thought the boy was sick, according to his mother.

“They said she dropped them off, and all she said was she feels like he’s sick,” the mother said.

Marshall was indicted on three counts of child endangerment in April. She turned herself in to Adult Probation on Monday. She was already on probation for prior convictions of theft and assault.

The baby’s mother said he is recovering.

“He’s doing good. He’s healthy,” she said.

Marshall will face a judge Wednesday. She remains in the Lucas County Jail.
