NORWALK, Conn. (WFSB) - Norwalk police are cracking down on drivers who don’t stop for people in crosswalks.
Officers are running a targeted enforcement initiative, watching intersections and pulling over drivers who fail to yield to pedestrians as the law requires.
The department says pedestrian safety is a top priority, and the penalty isn’t cheap. A crosswalk violation in Norwalk comes with a $588 fine.
Police are urging drivers to slow down, obey traffic signals and stop for people in marked crosswalks. They are also reminding pedestrians to use designated crosswalks and make themselves visible.
