Downtown New London shooting investigation underway after shell casings found in alleyway

NEW LONDON, Conn. (WFSB) - New London Police recovered shell casings in a downtown alleyway after hearing what they believed to be gunshots overnight.

Officers were patrolling the downtown area when they suddenly heard the shots at around 12:56 a.m. and also and received reports that individuals possibly involved had fled on foot, according to the police department.

When crews arrived, they found evidence of shots fired in an alleyway between Golden Street and South Water Street.

Police said several shell casings were recovered at the scene.

No injuries were reported.

Following a preliminary investigation, police said they believe the incident does not appear to be a random act.

The investigation remains active.
