UConn football opens camp with QB battle, nearly 70 new faces on roster

STORRS, Conn. (WFSB) - UConn football enters the 2026 season with nearly 70 new players on its roster and an open quarterback competition as training camp continues.

The Huskies are coming off back-to-back nine-win seasons — the first time in program history the team has accomplished that feat. Head coach Jason Candle’s program has not yet announced a starting quarterback heading into the new season.

Between transfers and incoming freshmen, approximately 70 new players are on this year’s roster. Position battles remain ongoing across the roster, with several starting spots still undecided on both sides of the ball, including at quarterback.

Multiple players competing for the starting quarterback role spoke with reporters at practice Saturday.

UConn opens the 2026 season on Sept. 5 at noon against Lafayette at home.

The Huskies will hold an open practice next Saturday at The Rent beginning at 11 a.m., giving fans a look at the team ahead of the season.
