UConn men’s hockey opens season at home against Colgate University

STORRS, Conn. (WFSB) - The UConn men’s hockey team will start the season at home against Colgate University.

It will be the second consecutive year they will face off in a two-game series, with games being held in Storrs on Friday and Saturday this weekend.

The matchups are televised on ESPN+, and both are scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.

Four new players have joined the UConn program this season, including four transfers from NCAA Division One schools.

Graduate student Forward Hugh Larkin joins UConn after spending time at Western Michigan, and Nick Carabin, a graduate defenseman, joins the Huskies from Princeton.

Additionally, Tyler Muszelik, a junior goaltender, transferred from the University of New Hampshire, and Viking Gustafsson Nyberg, a 6′6 sophomore defenseman, joins the roster from Northern Michigan.

Several experienced veterans return for the Huskies, including Hudson Schadnor, John Spetz, Tom Messineo, Jake Richard, and Jake Percival.

Last year against Colgate, the Huskies won one game and tied the other, starting the series with a 4-2 win. They erased a two-goal deficit to force a 3-3 tie in the following game.

The Huskies aim to get off to a hot start this year, with six of their first eight games at home.

They finished 7th place in Hockey East last year with a 15-19-2 record.
