WATERBURY, CT (WFSB) — A Waterbury man has been arrested following an armed robbery at a Wells Fargo Bank on Friday morning.

Police responded to the bank, located at 800 Wolcott Street, around 10 a.m. after receiving reports of the robbery.

Upon arrival, officers confirmed that a male suspect had threatened bank employees, claiming to possess a gun, though no weapon was displayed during the incident.

The suspect fled on foot before police arrived, taking an undisclosed amount of cash. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

The Waterbury Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB) immediately launched an investigation.

After reviewing surveillance footage, detectives identified the suspect as 57-year-old Thomas Hopkins of Waterbury.

On Saturday at 1 a.m., investigators located Hopkins near 174 Willow Street.

When authorities approached, Hopkins attempted to flee but was quickly apprehended.

During the investigation, officers discovered that Hopkins was a fugitive with an active warrant out of Seattle, Washington, related to a prior robbery.

Hopkins, a convicted felon with an extensive criminal history, including a felony robbery conviction in Seattle, now faces multiple charges in connection with the Waterbury robbery.

He was charged with first-degree robbery, second-degree threatening, and second-degree larceny.

Hopkins was arraigned in court on Monday and remains in custody at the Connecticut Department of Corrections (DOC) on a $550,000 bond.

In addition to the charges related to the Waterbury robbery, Hopkins faces charges in Hartford related to an outstanding larceny warrant and will be extradited to Seattle at a later date to face charges there.
